Anguish and Reassurances – 13

Holy Mother’s arrival in Calcutta in April 1888 has already been mentioned. About this time she had some remarkable spiritual experiences. One day, sitting on the roof of Balaram Bose’s house, she was meditating when she fell into deep samadhi. Describing this ecstasy she said later to Yogin-Ma: ‘I found that I had travelled to a far-away country. People there showed me great tenderness. I looked exceedingly beautiful. The Master was there. Gently they made me sit by his side. I cannot express in words the joy I felt at that time. Regaining partial consciousness, I saw my body lying near by like an ugly corpse. I began to worry about entering it. I did not feel in the least inclined to do so. After a long while I persuaded myself to get into the body and again became conscious of the physical world.’
