Holy Mother By Swami Nikhilananda: 230

In a Domestic Setting – 27

Beginning her household duties at seven o’clock, she spent two hours preparing vegetables. Besides, she supervised the supplies, arranged for the daily worship and performed it, distributed the Prasad, looked after the disciples at their meals, kneaded the flour for bread, cleaned the lamps, and did other odds and ends. She did not retire before eleven. She was self-reliant and even in old age disliked the idea of being a burden to others. Her brothers, instead of looking after her physical welfare, became her responsibility. Her regular income from the donations of her devotees and disciples was very limited. But she did her utmost to cater to the tastes of her devotees, rich and poor alike. Often food or money came to her unexpectedly when she needed it.
