Chapter 11 – Radhu : 04

In her childhood Radhu was a rather charming girl and attracted people by her air of innocence. She had nothing to worry about for her future and was indifferent to money. She loved Holy Mother very much and affectionately called her ‘Mother.’ She kept away from her own mother, whom she addressed as ‘Baldy Mother’ since the latter often had her head shaved after the fashion of Hindu widows. But Surabala felt terribly jealous when Holy Mother gave presents to others. She wanted everything for Radhu. Now and then she would say: ‘There, she is giving things away again. What will happen to Radhu? Addressing her daughter, she sometimes said: ‘My sister-in-law is generous to others. She is keeping nothing for you. Why should you live with her? Come away to my house.’ Radhu would be annoyed by these remarks. she would scold her mother and keep away from her. Holy Mother gave her everything she wanted and Radhu was happy.
