Chapter 13 – In the Role of Teacher : 006

There were two young ladies, sisters-in-law, who bore the same name of Sindhubala, one of whom was a political suspect. They hailed from the district where Holy Mother was born. By mistake the police first arrested the innocent one and then the other. One of them was pregnant. They were made to walk on foot in public. The mistake of the police was pointed out and suitable conveyance was suggested for their transportation. But the police refused and insisted on their walking. In addition, the request for bail was refused. The ladies were subjected to various humiliations. When the matter was reported to Holy Mother she shuddered and then said in an extremely angry voice: ‘What does all this mean? Has it been done by the order of the Government or s it an act of smartness of the police officers concerned? We never heard of such cruelty to innocent women during the reign of Queen Victoria. If the Government is responsible for the matter, then it will not last long. Was there no young man near who could slap the police and snatch away the girls?’ A little while after, her brother told her that the ladies had been released. Then she became somewhat pacified and said: ‘If I had not heard of their release, I could not have slept tonight.’
