In a Catholic school, a music teacher sees a major change in one of her favorite students and when she reaches out to her, she begins to suspect that something horrible has happened. The teacher decides to meet with the student's mother and in doing so, discovers things are even worse than she originally thought.
We learn that just a few months prior, the mother was in a serious car accident that that almost broke her neck and required an immediate surgery.
During her recovery, she was prescribed with heavy pain killers and she seemed to be recovering just fine until her prescription ran out.
Through the innocent eyes of a child, we see the grim reality of addiction and its claim over her mother's life.
Jackie quickly devises a plan to escape her mother and as the story progresses, she is forced to become more and more resourceful.
This is a true story I witnessed while teaching in Dallas.
