I grew up in Dartford in the 1980's and the Neurotics were just my favourite band. I missed their farewell gig at the Fulham Greyhound in October 1988 as I was having a difficult pregnancy with my eldest daughter. I (yet again!) managed to miss their reunion gig in May 06 as I was also having another difficult pregnancy. Steve Drewett was good enough to write to me back in 88 when I wrote to say how gutted I was I could not come to the Greyhound and sent me a christmas card every year for many years after. It was this type of kindness, along with the amazing, thoughtful lyrics and just brilliant tunes that made the Neurotics one of the best bands ever. Having only just noticed on Amazon when compiling an unlikely to ever be fulfilled wish list, that Repercussions and Is Your Washroon Breeding Bolsheviks were on a double CD, I just had to buy it and I received it this morning. Thank you for all the brilliant songs. You've made me very happy.

Been a longtime fan since "Beggars Can Be Choosers" -- glad to hear that you're still at it. Your music has accompanied and inspired me through myriad stages of life, and the thought of being able to return to one source from teenage to middle age to find a voice of intellect and melodic mastery is like having an imaginary post to lean on.

Hi guys,
normally I'm not used to sign in guest books, but today I've got a very good reason to do so. Found a tape in my archives containing a show you played @ in East Berlin. If I remember right it must have been in summer of '89 at the "Insel der Jugend". Further lineup features Attila, "Die Art" from Leipzig and "Die Skeptiker" from Berlin. Thought you might need it for your archives - if you like you can download the whole thing @ my blog or following this link:

It's a pity that I've seen you only once, any chance for some of your last gigs to happen in Germany?? I'm afraid no, but thx alot for a big bunch of great tunes - there will be always a place in my heart for The Neurotics.

so it is june 24. 2006. it's damm hot and i was just shopping to get my stuff for the week.
plugged into the cars radio i found a tape of punk songs with melodies - a compilation i made for my daughter a couple of years ago.

there was plenty of good old stuff on it and amongst it there were the newton neurotics. i didn't listen to them for years not to say decades (yeah i am an old fart, at least in punk terms).

so the track playing was "fighting times" and while i was driving home through the black red and gold sea of puke the current world championship created around me i could not help but starting to cry...

why? nothing changed. nothing changed. allt he coloured hair, the spikes the noise mean nothing. the world is even more ****ed up today than in the 8oies - when my friend and me believed that we are about to die either in atomic nightmare or a ****ed up nature.

30 years of protest songs and nothing changed. 30? add the hippies and we get even more.
i remenber seeing the NEWTON NEUROTICS on my 20th birthday in 1985 (oops now you got my age) in london playing to a small audience of normal looking people. the spikey hair dudes propably where buy getting their pictures taken by some tourists...

so what is the point of this posting? i really don't know but i am typing this while playing the repercussion lp and i still keep on crying.

and what am i gonna do about? stay at home and drink? stay at home and play computer games? go out and drink? nothing we ever did help change anything...

no this ain't a summer depression - it's more like i feel a summer explosion ...

anyway try to get a copy of the repercussions record - it is great... with songs like this one - and maybe we gonna wake up again (and again and again), and make this times fightingt times again (and i don't mean the ritual encounter with the local nazis in a safe playground protected by the cops)

Fighting Times.

How will the ruling classes keep one jump ahead of you?
It is quite simple education cuts will do
They realise that knowledge is power
and power creates money which you can buy yourself a decent education or two.

Chorus:

I've seen your future
I've seen your future
a generation with nothing left to lose
Why are you so quiet
when these are fighting times?

I don't wanna be a rich man, I don't wanna win the pools
I want wealth for all like health care jobs and schools
Unemployment has a devastating effect
rob someone of their right to work
and you know, they feel they have nothing left

Chorus:

Disagree and you're extremist and that worries me
Stretch a term too far and in the end what does it mean?
Ask no questions and you'll still get lies
and they will fill your head
Your silence can be misconstrued
as a vote of confidence...
Just listen to them .....
"We're sorry you're so poor - hey, better luck next time"

In this country fit for heroes, In the air I love to breathe
is the stinking smell of fascism and it's suffocating me
White South Africa retains its colonial ways
'cos its greed creates the scum that rules a land
and imprisons it's people as slaves.

Chorus:

Fighting times
Fighting times
Fighting times
Frightening times.

Anyone have a recording of the Neurotics' Peel Session? Other Neurotics' demos/rarities? Would love to trade so long as the band don't mind.
