wow, what a lot of memories. Lived above the Lingard\'s who were in 13 Blake House. Had a friend in Cowper, Alan Wheeldon. Remember hanging out with Phil Greenwood across from Cowper is where I think he lived. I am wrongly identified as \"Kenneth Moore\" in the photos of the kids at Lower Kersal Primary School within this web site.Lived in Prestwich for a few years until emigrating to Canada in 1973. Been back a couple of times since then. Difficult to see what happened to my old home area. Anyone who recognises or remembers me, please e-mail.

Oaklands Halls of Residence

Can I just say what a fantastic / nostalgic site! i was a student in Oaklands Halls in the early 1980s. Whilst not originally from the Salford area, the surrounding area always fascinated me. We had superb views from the Halls of Residence over the Kersal Flats, the old racecourse, and the University and Manchester City Centre in the background. Some great times were had in various local hostelries (The Star Inn, The Plough, The Kersal Hotel).
I moved away for a few years, but now live only a few miles away. It is so sad to see how much the area has changed - not only have the Halls and flats gone, but the colliery and many of the aforementioned pubs.
Alas, I don\'t have many photos of the Halls from my time there, so if anyone reading reading has any old photos I would love to see them!

Unity Quarter - off Oaklands Road

I came across the website by accident. Since moving into the area 2 years ago I always wordered why the landscape below Oaklands Road appeared the way it does. I\'ve been told that Oakland Primary school once stood opposite Unity Quarter and the new estate is being built on the site of Kersal High School: that\'s all I knew, but thanks to you guys I now knew alot more about the area.. The stories I\'ve read and pictures I\'ve seen are fascinating and extremely interesting. Shame on Salford Council to have allowed the area to be left unkept like they have with so much history. Well done to those at www.kersalflats.co.uk for keeping local history alive. Regard Jon.

I went to Cromwell boys scool and left in 1970. My classmates were, Dave Roberts, Brian Barnes, Warren Hobbs, Steve Clarke, John Hooley, Pete Ruddy, Mark Dutton, Jimmy Wallwork, Tommy Leach, Pete Isted and many more I can't reccolect. We all left as soon as we could. None of us had a single qualification. I wonder how they got on inlife and what they are up to now? They will all be about 57 years old.

Does any body remember having to take in your own plate and a sixpence to pay for the Christmas party at Lower Kersal Primary school? They also hired films that you had to have sixpence to watch. If you diddn't have the money you were made to sit in a classroom with all the other kids that were skint and miss the film. That school was very often 'haves and have nots' and we were made to know it if we were 'have nots'.
